An Argument in Favor

چکیده
We argue in favor of the presumed c o m m i t protocol by proposing two new presumed commit variants that sign$cantly reduce the cost of logging activities associated with the original presumed commit protocol. Furthermore, for read-only transactions, we apply our unsolicited updatevote optim’zationand show that the cost associated with this type of transactions is the same in both presumed commit and presumed abort protocols, thus, nullifying the basis for the argument that favors the presumed abort protocol. This is especially important for modern distributed environments which are characterized by high reliability and high probability of transactions being committed rather than aborted.

Compensatory efforts, positive discrimination or reverse discrimination are the terms which nowadays are used in applied ethics for a set of efforts and privileges which are scheduled for compensation of the historical oppressions and discriminations imposed upon some groups and classes in the society. The mentioned oppressions and discriminations may be applied deliberately or inadvertently or...
متن کاملThe Effect of Argument Mapping Instruction on L2 Writing Achievement across Writing Tasks and Writing Components: A Case of Iranian EFL Learners
Argument maps as schematic representations of arguments and their logical and evidential relationships are effective diagrams for instruction in education as well as in L2 development. However, their use for teaching L2 writing in EFL contexts has not been adequately studied. Therefore, this study investigated the effect of argument mapping instruction on Iranian EFL learners’ writing achieveme...
متن کاملThe ‘Intrinsic Nature’ Argument for Panpsychism
Strawson’s case in favor of panpsychism is at heart an updated version of a venerable form of argument I’ll call the ‘intrinsic nature’ argument. It is an extremely interesting argument which deploys all sorts of high caliber metaphysical weaponry (despite the ‘down home’ appeals to common sense which Strawson frequently makes). The argument is also subtle and intricate. So let’s spend some tim...
متن کاملAn Effective Numerical Technique for Solving Second Order Linear Two-Point Boundary Value Problems with Deviating Argument
Based on reproducing kernel theory, an effective numerical technique is proposed for solving second order linear two-point boundary value problems with deviating argument. In this method, reproducing kernels with Chebyshev polynomial form are used (C-RKM). The convergence and an error estimation of the method are discussed. The efficiency and the accuracy of the method is demonstrated on some n...

Subjectivism, physicalism, or none of the above? Comments on Ross's "The location problem for color subjectivism".
In “The Location Problem for Color Subjectivism,” Peter Ross argues against what he calls subjectivism — the view that “colors are not describable in physical terms, ... [but are] mental processes or events of visual states” (2), and in favor of physicalism — a view according to which colors are “physical properties of physical objects, such as reflectance properties” (10). He rejects an argume...
